This November, I decided to return to painting harvest vegetables. I did so in 2016 and 2017. It’s a fun way to paint a variety of colors and shapes.
First I chose a reference photo. I did not keep track of my painting sessions this month. I painted the basket and then worked from left to right, painting the vegetables. After the first pass, I tried to work for volume and be clear about the relationship between one vegetable and its neighbor. -(Do I know what each of those vegetables are? I do not.) I decided to paint the background as though the vegetables were giving rays of light, so I alternated stripes of yellow and orange (which looks brown on the scan), leaving some of the paper unpainted.
I am grateful for and to
- Mother Earth and the spectacular life force.
- The gardeners who grew the vegetables.
- The photographer who took reference photo.
- The people who make the brushes, watercolors, and paper I use.
- The PCAs who sit patiently beside me and adjust the positions of brushes, colors, and paper.
- My body-mind, which can translate what I see into marks.
- My husband for figuring out the arrangement of my painting desk and easel and for scanning my paintings.
- The freshness in this painting. There are very few muddy areas!
- You for viewing my results. It’s a last step of the creative process – being able to share the results with someone.
THANK YOU!
