I’m really happy with the final product. I worked from a photograph and I learned that if I don’t understand what’s happening in the photo (the lettuce on the left and the cauliflower (?) on the right), it’s difficult to draw it.
At one point, I had the watercolor pencil drawing completed. If I lived a different life, I would’ve scanned it at that point. Then not only would I be able to capture that moment and show you, but I could also revert to that version for the newsletter if needed. But I remembered Melissa Dinwiddie’s creative rule number seven: “take the riskier path.” I picked up the marker and drew around a few vegetables. Ugh! I hated it! But, “in for a penny, in for a pound.” I kept drawing. It’s hard for me to make smooth lines, about which I also despaired at one point. I remembered “embrace the shake” and kept drawing. Eventually, I began to like the look of things.
Yay for persistence (and for artists on the Internet and for idioms)! I want to make more like this…
