In a recent interview Rev. Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Georgia) said:
“Hope is everything. When you lose hope, you stop fighting.” He went on “there are those in our country right now who are trying to weaponize despair. They are flooding the zone and they are hoping that you won’t fight. You need to prove them wrong.”
“I still believe that the power in this country does rest with the people and not the people in power,” he said.
He quoted Matthew 25:35-40 from the Bible and said it informs his preaching and his work. “Center the most marginalized part of the human family,” he summarized.
Hope reminds us that things will change and moves us to dream of and work for a better world.
After hearing the interview, I felt lighter and energized. We can do this for each other, practicing hope and encouraging compassionate action.
In your journal:
- what changes do you hope to see in your world?
- Who encourages you? Who can you encourage?
- What values inform your life?
