This month’s theme is RESILIENCE. I think of it as “the ability to adapt and thrive in the midst of difficulty.” It is what we do to weather the ups and downs of everyday life.

It is a natural resource with which we are all born and a skill we can improve.

Mayo Clinic has some ideas about how resilience can be cultivated..

  1. Get connected – join with other people. They can support and inspire you. You can support and inspire them. You can offer each other practical, social, and/or spiritual support. Many hands lighten the load.
  2. Make every day have meeting. What’s your priority for the day? How can you be of service? Whose day will you brighten? I found inspiration in the Just for Today list.
  3. Learn from the past. Perhaps you have faced challenging times and persevered. How did you do it? What helped? What didn’t? You can also read history or memoirs for ideas. Other folks have overcome tough times.
  4. Look for the good. Think of all the things that are going well for you right now. For what are you grateful? Who has supported you? Where do you find beauty?
  5. Take care of yourself. Try to get enough sleep. Eat nourishing food. Drink lots of water. Include gentle exercise and times of client (meditation?) in your routine.

The folks at the Joy Lab Podcast have a Resilience Type Quiz. It will unlock a minicourse giving you strategies and suggestions for how to be more resilient.

In your journal:

  • Who supports you? Who are you supporting? Who is in your community?
  • Describe a time in your life where you overcame obstacles. What happened? How did you cope?
  • List 10 things for which you are grateful. Keep a gratitude journal.
