We often lead our lives with the expectation that we will be healthy and feel energetic. When something happens to disrupt that daydream, we feel betrayed and angry and lost. We need to find a new story to support us.
Recently, I watched an old video with Stephen Levine. He was one of a few people providing unconventional ways to think about illness around the time of my MS diagnosis. If I understand him correctly, Stephen believed that we are on this earth to heal, that each of us has our own healing path. He saw death, not as a failure, but as part of our healing journey.
I find strength in this philosophy. With it, illness becomes not a failure, but a path. Here, I am called to give up control, to ask for help, to believe in my inherent worth and to find joy in every day, small beauties.
What is the healing for which you were born?
