As I go through my day, I watch for moments when the corners of my mouth turn up and my heart lifts. I note these moments of delight in my journal and consider their patterns here. I encourage you to be on the lookout for your Delight of the Day.
Noting my Delights of the Day is a practice to which I keep rededicating myself. Some weeks, Fridays are so busy that I don’t post my Delights online. Some weeks, I forget to keep track of my Delights. I like it best when I keep track of my Delights and post them here. It adds an extra layer of response-ability and celebration to the practice.
Keeping watch for moments of delight, watching for breaks in the clouds of mood and pain, I reset my intention to choose joy. It’s not that I am refusing to feel other emotions, it that I am reminding myself to be thankful for moments of lightness and beauty.
My delights this week include:
spending time drawing
hearing a speaker encourage a group to go forward with compassion after a big change
talking about gratitude with a woman from Iran
learning from my dog, Cocoa
looking out on one of Minnesota’s 10,000 lakes
the blue of a friend’s eyes
May you find delight in each day.
