Creativity Cookies: morsels for your Muse

Welcome to Creativity Cookies, your monthly invitation to creative action!

The BIG IDEA for this month is

Take time to create.

Okay, I realize this is not an amazingly original idea. But without time, creativity doesn’t happen. Ideally, we need to take s p a c i o u s amounts of time on a regular basis. Any amount of time any time is better than nothing, but daily and not feeling hurried are best.

Recently, I’ve been working on a project using a software tool with which I don’t have much experience. I work on it a bit and, when I come back two weeks later, I have to retrain myself on the software. I will be happier if I spend a bit of time every couple days on the project. As I used to recite in my twelve-step days, “I never will find time for anything, if I want time I must take it.

Starter action

Commit to taking a small amount of time (two minutes? five minutes? 10 minutes?) for creative activity every day for the next four days.

Next action: take another four day period where you spend twice the time each day. How was that different for you? What happens if you spend more days than four in a row?

Play with it and see what works for you.
