Creativity Cookies: morsels for your Muse

Welcome to Creativity Cookies, your monthly invitation to creative action!

The BIG IDEA for this month, courtesy of creative sprinkle, Phil Hansen, is

Embrace the shake

In the video below, Phil tells the story of how, rather than continue to be frustrated by something unpleasant he couldn’t control, he decided to open himself to it. Phil challenges us to spark our creativity by thinking inside the box.

Starter action

What if, next time your art goes in a way you don’t like, you do more that same way? Crooked lines? Make ‘em crookeder! Muddy colors? Add red and green.  Out of tune? Play every note slightly off. Take Lucy Van Pelt’s advice: “if you can’t be right, be wrong at the top of your voice.”

Video Morsel(10:01) Here’s Phil Hansen. [My monster-mind went on a riff about “well of course he can do that. He’s a great representational artist!” If yours does too, experiment with embracing the monster and embracing your own style. Remember (as Crosby, Stills and Nash almost sang): if you can’t make the art you love, love the art you make.]

Creativity Cookies is published on the 15th of each month.

Love the art you make.
