I’ve been practicing what I call The Delight of the Day. Each day I watch for moments that inspire a strong feeling of gratitude and joy within me. I mentally label the strongest such moment The Delight of the Day. The practice encourages what psychologists call “positive scanning.” I’m waiting for good things to happen and, when they do, I notice and celebrate them. The more I understand what brings me joy, the more I can drop into it.
Wheels for Wendell is a fundraising project to buy a (friends of a friend) family a wheelchair accessible van. In the fundraising video, Wendell’s mom’s journey reminded me of my own… Reminded me of all journeys to deeper love.
she is mourning
the self she was
with feet that danced
in summer grass
fingers that moved nimbly
on strings and keys
humor and wit
that came easily
And
she is learning
to fall in love with herself
not the self she hoped she’d be
or the self she wished she’d be
but the self she is
who sits and haltingly
touches circles
into puddles of delight
Please watch the video, contribute if you can, and love who you are right now.
My delights for this week:
Listened to the women in my writers group: voices I love telling real-life stories
Played the chime as part of improvisational music in church.
Learned about Wheels for Wendell and was touched and inspired by his mom’s love.
Felt good physically! Spent a half-hour on the strap stand.
Witnessed two teenage girls strengthening their friendship with teasing and laughter.
Sat in the sun (after days of clouds).
Registered for Your Big Bold Creative Life Academy and felt bold and creative.
May you move toward your joy and find delight in each day.
