For several years, I’ve been practicing what I call The Delight of the Day. Each day I watch for moments that inspire a strong feeling of gratitude and joy within me. I mentally label the strongest such moment The Delight of the Day. The practice encourages what psychologists call “positive scanning.” I’m waiting for good things to happen and, when they do, I notice and celebrate them.
If there is a theme for my week, it has been “connections with people I love.” What a great theme!
Here are my Delights for this week:
I got smooched! (I have a sticker to prove it.)
My friend Bonnie Fournier makes the world a better place through The Smooch! Project. My family ate tasty Indian food and then posed in several different smoochy combinations. Fun to do and someday we will have photos to help us relive the love.
An intergenerational group at church had it an advent decorating party. It was great to be with a mix of ages working together to make beauty.
My friend, Lisa, came to visit. We bonded over root beer Popsicles when we were seven and have supported and loved each other ever since. I’m still glowing warmly.
I realized I am at a Big Beginning. I was invited into Circe’s Circle, a coaching group facilitated by Jamie Ridler, of whom I am a fan. Beginnings are spacious and scary and unreal. I want to let the feelings be as they are and watch them evolve.
Melissa Dinwiddie’s Creative Sandbox 101 Ruzuku class kept me painting and encouraged me to play.
My 15-year-old daughter and I had a long conversation about life, the universe and everything.
We did a MacGyver to enable me to more easily close the front door when I go out of the house. Simple delights.
May you find delight in each day.
