For several years, I’ve been practicing what I call The Delight of the Day. Each day I watch for moments that inspire a strong feeling of gratitude and joy within me. I mentally label the strongest such moment The Delight of the Day. The practice encourages what psychologists call “positive scanning.” I’m waiting for good things to happen and, when they do, I notice and celebrate them.
Here are my Delights for this week:
Lunch at the Happy Gnome – eating (tasty butternut squash risotto) with friends beneath artistic beams and chandeliers watching the bride and flower girls come in and out – warmth within me and around me.
Quilt Sunday at North Como Presbyterian Church. Women of the church gather together to make quilts. Once a year the quilts are displayed and then given to nonprofit organizations helping people in need – artists helping to make the world a better place.
Planning for the “launch” of a new blog feature. It’s fun to think about colors and shapes and sizes and to realize It’s an experiment – trying something new and giving myself permission to change it if need be.
The scary insight that I want to move toward exuberance – same as above, but because this is internal, it feels Important.
Making art first thing in the morning – starting the day gently, with mental spaciousness, doing something I love.
Creativity Cookies launch! –watching something sweet move from fantasy to reality.
Reviewing my productions of the second week of at Every Day Month – trying some new things that involve trust (not an easy one for me) and discovering beauty in the corners of something I about which I felt unsure.
May you find delight in each day.
